Color Theory



  1. Define hue: Hue is a word used to refer to a pure spectrum of colors.
  2. Define value: It is the lightness or darkness of a color.

  3. Define saturation: It defines a range of purity of a color.
  4. How many colors are available on our computers? There are about 16,777,216 color variations.
  5. Define secondary color: It is the result of mixing two primary colors.
  6. Define tertiary color: It is a result of mixing a primary color with its adjacent secondary color.
  7. Define complementary colors: They are colors that are across from each other in a color spectrum.

  8. What are the primary colors in Photoshop? Red, Blue, and Green.
  9. What are the secondary colors in Photoshop? Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black.
  10. Define subtractive color model: A reflective color with a wavelength that is less than its total complete color. This is used for printing.
  11. Define additive color model: Colors that are created using light. This is used on a computer screen.
  12. Is RGB additive or subtractive? Additive
  13. What is the CMYK color model used for? It is a subtractive color model that is used for color printing.
  14. Define analogous colors: A group of three colors that are adjacent to each other on the color wheel.
  15. Define tint: A lighter value of a color.
  16. Define shade: The darker value of a color.
  17. Define neutral: A color that is not bright or dark.
  18. Define monochromatic: Using only one color.

  19. What can be said in general about warm colors? They can make you from cheerful to violent.
  20. What can be said in general about cool colors? They have a calming effect.
  21. Which color is associated with stability? Brown
  22. Which color symbolizes royalty? Purple
  23. Which is the color of cleanliness? White
  24. Which color symbolizes freshness? Green
  25. Which colors are associated with joy? Orange
  26. Which color symbolizes passion and danger? Red
